The six Labra wines on a wooden table in the evening light

LABRA

For our table and for yours

In Abkhazia nobody drinks wine without a reason: a guest at the door, a family dinner, a toast to those we love.

The wine we would gladly set before a guest is the wine we send to you.

Our family

One family, four generations

Our grandfather Nikolai Achba was Abkhazia's chief winemaker: Psou, Lykhny and Apsny were his wines.

The craft passed to his son, then to the grandsons. In 2014 the Achba brothers planted the first vines in Labra.

Today the fourth generation continues the family business, advancing its winemaking and traditions of hospitality.

Old rules, new winery

Only our own grapes. The rules are our grandfather's: pick on time, never rush, add nothing extra.

The winery is new: Italian equipment, temperature under control, our own laboratory.

So the bottle you open next time will taste like the one you open tonight.

Between the sea and the mountains

Labra lies between the Black Sea and the Caucasus: the sea is four kilometres away, Sukhum half an hour's drive.

Sea air meets mountain air here, the summer is long and sunny, and the rain comes when it should.

So the grapes ripen calmly, without hurry, and that is where the softness and even taste of our wines come from.

The varieties were chosen for our land: the soil was studied first, and each plot has its own vine from Italy.

A rose bush grows at the end of every row: if a vine is short of something, the rose shows it first.

Italian steel, Abkhaz hands

The winery stands right by the rows: a bunch is cut and minutes later it is on the sorting table.

It went up in a year and the equipment came from Italy. The people who work here are from Labra, Kutol and Dzhgerda.

In spring 2025 we bottled our own wine here for the first time, and we will make it the same way year after year.

What grows in Labra

About 80 hectares under vine: five red varieties are already bearing, the whites are coming up.

The vines came from Italy and have settled well on our land.

The varieties are French, the cuttings Italian. The long Abkhazian summer suits them well.

Isabella has long been grown in Abkhazia and is one of the varieties in our vineyards.

  • Cabernet SauvignonThe backbone of our reds: colour, body and a long finish.
  • MerlotSoft and fruity; it makes the red friendlier.
  • MarselanA southern variety that loves the sun and gives a deep, dark colour.
  • MalbecDense and dark, it gives the red its character.
  • IsabellaThe one that grows in every Abkhaz yard.
  • Chardonnay and Sauvignon BlancPlanted in 2025. The first white is expected around 2028.
